Simba tells her that that is like saying she does not want to be a lion. Simba starts to go on about the responsibilities of being queen, but Kiara interrupts him and spits out that she does not want to assume the role because it is no fun. He reminds her about the Circle of Life, but she tiredly finishes his sentence for him. He reminds her that he would not be there someday and that she would need to take over in his place. He expresses that if anything happened to her, he would not know what to do. It starts as Simba scolds Kiara for breaking the rules and endangering herself after their encounter with Zira and the Outsiders. "We Are One" is the second song heard in The Lion King II: Simba's Pride.

Simba and Kiara overlook the Pride Lands during the "We Are One" sequence. On October 3, 2011, "We Are One" was released as part of The Lion King Collection (Deluxe Edition). In 1999, "We Are One" was re-released as part of The Lion King Collection. An Africanized remix of the song, sung by Angélique Kidjo, was also included on the soundtrack. "We Are One" was released on September 8, 1998, as part of Return to Pride Rock.
